Plant-based plastic that can change the world…

Plastic can be made out of plants and therefore be disposed of in an environmental friendly way. This plastic has the same characteristics as chemical-based plastic that is so common — it can be transparent, flexible or rigid, waterproof, etc. And when it decomposes, it can turn into fertilizer.

It’s not well-known, but veggie plastic is used in our everyday lives….from food containers to automobile parts.

While we can recycle some plastic, there is a limit. If we can manage to make veggie plastic the leading form of plastic used, it will have a powerfully positive impact on the environment.

Paul Lavallée has a PhD in biophysics and is a professor at the University of Quebec in Montreal.
