Philosophy in rock music…

Can rock and philosophy be compatible? Obviously! Descartes’s first Meditations and the Pixies « Where is my mind » raise the same question: is what I’m seeing reality? The message in Pascal’s Pensées and the one in Nirvana’s « Smells like teen spirit » are similar : the ego is detestable.

By bringing together philosophical texts and rock ’n roll lyrics, this entirely original work proposes to (re)discover classic authors while listening to favorite groups and verses in a different manner.

Rock ’n Philo addresses the major philosophical themes via singers and groups as diverses as The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Noir Désir, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Bashung, Hendrix, Téléphone, Nina Hagen, Marilyn Manson, Elvis, The Rolling Stones, les BB Brunes.

Francis Métivier has a doctorate in philosopher and is a high school teacher. He specializes in the question of aesthetics and action theory.
