The narrator is French just like everyone else, almost. The banlieue, his ancestry is all in the past. Being a « victim » is not his thing.

He now lives in Paris, went to a top school, works in banking, lives with the woman he loves: he has succeeded. And then it all starts to go wrong…

In a France that is overrun with fear, the extreme right’s victory is inevitable. The new president methodically implements her policies: the « National Recovery » is underway.

From a sophisticated world, we fall into a suffocating Manichaeism. Some people, and at times most unexpectedly, fold under the oppression. Others, to the contrary, organize the resistance. As for the narrator, he can’t decide. He debates with himself, with who he is, with who others say he is. He finally makes his decision: « Today, I live; tomorrow I may be dead but I will not longer be alone. Long live France! ».
