1939, the mountains of Kabylia, Algeria. 20-year-old Adam dreams of building a home for Zina who is the love of his life and the most beautiful woman in Bousoulem.

But WWII has other plans for Adam. Torn from his home and Zina, he is forced to enroll in the French army to fight the Germans. It’s difficult for him to grasp going to war on behalf of a country that he doesn’t even know.

During the war, his troop is captured by the Germans and he is sent to a work camp in the north of France that is colonial soldiers only. He has one goal : to escape and make his way back home to Zina.

Adam does manage to escape and makes his way to occupied Paris where he must remain under the radar of the Germans and stay alive long enough to return home once the war ends.

The first in a trilogy, Love and War is a powerful epic that pays homage to the forgotten men of French history.

Akli Tadjer is the author of eight novels, three of which have been adapted for television. La Reine du tango (JC Lattès, 2016) was the recipient of the prix Nice Baie des Anges. His previous book, Qui n’est pas raciste, ici? (JC Lattès, 2019), received much media attention around the world.
