After 10 years of feminist activism, the leader of FEMEN pays homage to the women who have been inspirations to her… her heroes.

For Inna Schevchenko, the most important goal that a woman can achieve in this male-dominated world is to help another woman to believe in herself. In this work, she intersperses stories of her life and experiences with tales of her personal heroes and how they helped her through each stage of her self-liberation.

Her heroes are not just inspiring historical figures, they are those who have helped her personally to understand herself. They are those who have lifted her spirits at an important moment or those who have led by example through extraordinary achievement. Inna pays tribute to known and unknown women who have disobeyed, question and defied the patriarchal status quo, and who have inspired her to do the same in her work with FEMEN.

But the most important thing that Inna wants readers to understand is that every woman is a true hero.

Inna Schevchenko is a feminist activist and the leader of international women's movement FEMEN, which often demonstrates topless against what they perceive as manifestations of patriarchy, especially dictatorship, religion, and the sex industry. She currently lives in exile in France and has co-author Anatomie de l’oppression with Pauline Hiller (Seuil, 2017).
