In Italy, Acia suddenly finds herself without work after the boss of the restaurant where she works disappears with all of the money. She takes off in her car without with a specific destination in mind. During a stop for lunch, she comes across a recipe book that has been left out on a bench. The name of a town is written on the inside: Palazzo. Acia takes that as a sign and decides to make her way to Palazzo.

Once she arrives, she is led to the best cook in town, a woman named Nebbe who is in desperate need of help to keep her restaurant in business.

Meanwhile, Kamar and her daughter flee the bombings, death and war of Syria to make their way towards Europe, and happen to end up in the the small Italian town of Palazzo.

These three women will join together to bring Nebbe’s restaurant back to life and to create a new family for themselves in the most unexpected way.

Christine Féret-Fleury is an editor and author, and runs writing workshops. She has written nearly one hundred novels for children and adults (La Fille qui lisait dans le métro, 2017, Denoël, La Femme sans ombre, 2019, Denoël). Her first novel, Les vagues sont douces comme des tigres (Arléa, 1999) was the recipient of the Prix Antigone.
