Turkey's critically acclaimed author Nedim Gürsel offers this cultural perspective of Iran, a country many of us know little about yet are fascinated by.

According to the Shiite belief, the 12th Imam, who did not die but disappeared, will come out of his hiding place and bring equality to our world. He will feed the poor, heal the sick, and hold the oppressors to account. He will grant our world the justice that we miss more and more every day. Nedim Gürsel traveled throughout Iran from the palaces and covered bazaars of Tehran to the mosques of Isfahan, from the holy shrines of Meshed to the rose gardens of Shiraz, from the wall reliefs of Persepolis to the royal tombs of Pasargard. He followed the traces of great poets and authors and tells us about their writings and influence.

His book discusses the unique heritage of ancient Persian civilization as well as the religious and political issues of present-day Iran.

Nedim Gürsel, born in 1951, is one of Turkey’s most prestigious authors. He is the prize-winning author of over 40 works translated into twenty languages. Nedim’s most well-known novels include The Conqueror, The Daughters of Allah, and The Red Angel (prix Méditérranée étranger, 2013). He currently resides in Paris.
